3 Meal Ideas to Bring to a New Mom

Whether you’re signed up to make a family a meal, have a close family member who just had a baby, or are prepping your own home for a new addition, these 3 tips and meal ideas will surely come in handy!

Bringing a family a meal after the birth of a child is such a great way of lending a helping hand and giving them a tiny bit of respite. You also partake in helping them nourish their bodies to take care of their new child. It’s such a great way of extending grace and love to someone who is in a huge transition!

A few things I like to focus on for these meals is to make sure they are comforting, healthy, and have some “extras” included.

For comforting, this doesn’t necessarily mean lasagna (I mean you can only eat so much lasagna, am I right?) However, I like to think of unique comfort food that other people wouldn’t necessarily think of making them. So instead of lasagna I would choose something like enchiladas. Enchiladas are still a very comforting meal, yet have a little uniqueness to them that others may not think of.

For healthy, I always like to make something that isn’t too heavy. After birth, Mom’s need to be fueled with healthy nutrients, lean protein, and healthy fatty acids. Try to switch out beef for turkey or pork for chicken. This will make their meal feel nourishing to their bodies and not make them more tired. I also will always have a bagged salad to go with the meal or some type of easy vegetable that they can throw together at their house.

For the “extras”, I like to include a dessert or something that can accompany the dish you selected. For example, with enchiladas you can include a bag of chips and guacamole for some fresh and healthy fatty acids. Or you could incorporate a breakfast option for the next morning like overnight oats, breakfast cookies, or protein bites. Something to make their lives just a little bit easier.

Also, I like to choose meals that can be warmed up at the recipients home so that it’s as fresh as possible for the family. PLUS, they can eat it when they want to. For example, if they already have a ton of leftovers, they can place your meal in the freezer for future use and heat it up fresh for dinner the following night.

With all that said, I hope these meal ideas give you inspiration and help you plan for your next dinner drop-off!

#1: Enchiladas

This is the meal I make the most for people who just had a baby! They are easy, can be warmed up at the recipients home, and have a lot of great protein in them.

Tips:

  1. Switch beef for chicken for a healthier version

  2. Make a separate bag of add-ins like tortilla chips, guacamole, a southwestern bagged salad for them to assemble when they are ready to eat, and greek yogurt for topping on the enchiladas.

  3. Sweet treat: Healthy Breakfast Cookies for the next morning, that night, or as a healthy snack.

#2: Greek Quinoa Chicken Salad

This is an easy meal to make and can be kept in the fridge until ready to be eaten. It’s a great option because it can be eaten for dinner or lunch. It has so many healthy vitamins, minerals, fatty-acids, and lean protein in it. This meal is perfect for a family who requests a healthier meal.

Tips:

  1. Add-In to Bring: Tatziki sauce or hummus with pita chips

  2. Sweet treat: Blueberry Morning Glory Muffins

#3: White Chicken Chili

This is a great meal to bring when it’s winter time! Transport in a pot so that the family can warm it up before eating.

Tips:

  1. Make a separate bag of add-ins like tortilla chips, veggie platter with ranch dressing, and greek yogurt/cilantro/cheddar cheese/avocado for topping on the soup.

  2. Sweet treat: Banana Bread

Other Ideas to Bring:
