How it’s Made

This Banana Mug bread is extremely easy to make. Simply mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl with a pouring spout. Pour the batter into a microwave safe large mug and cook in the microwave for 2 minutes. The bread should raise and look a little like a muffin top. Then you’ll drizzle a tablespoon of peanut butter on top. And that’s it! Simple, delicious, and nourishing banana bread at your fingertips. All you have to focus on is not getting any of the gooey chocolate all over your face!

You can also customize this recipe to be interactive and fun! Make the batter and then let your family, kids, or guests spruce up their mugs with extra chocolate, sprinkles, m&m’s… the ideas are endless! This makes for a fun and interactive activity with your loved ones!

5 Minute Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bread in a Mug

Time: 5-10 minutes | Serves: 1 mug bread

Ingredients:

  • 1 small overly ripe banana, mashed

  • 1 tablespoon virgin coconut oil, melted

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (you can also use almond flour but it doesn’t quite have the same texture and flavor, I wouldn’t recommend)

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips

  • 1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter, for drizzling

Directions:

  1. First, in a small bowl mix together the banana, coconut oil, maple syrup, egg, and vanilla until well combined.

  2. Add the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt to the wet ingredients and mix until everything is incorporated. Fold in the chocolate chips.

  3. Spoon your batter into your favorite large microwave safe mug until it is about 3/4 of the way to the top. Add any additional toppings if desired: more chocolate, sprinkles, etc. Then, place your mug in the microwave to cook for 2 minutes on high.

  4. Take your mug bread out of the microwave and top it with a drizzle of the peanut butter! Eat immediately and enjoy!

Note: This mug bread is intended to be eaten right away while it’s hot and gooey. I do not recommend making this ahead of time and eating later for it won’t have the same amazing gooey and moist texture!
